The B.A. in Mathematics, our main program of study, is both rigorous and flexible. It is conceived to ensure that students understand and appreciate the nature and power of mathematical thought and it gives them flexibility so they can tailor the program to suit their personal interests and to support their professional aspirations.

Candidates for a baccalaureate degree must fulfill the requirements for a major as listed in the courses of study bulletin. The courses of study bulletin is the official source of information regarding degree requirements, academic policies, and academic majors and minors at Trinity University.

Pathways Curriculum
-
Students must complete the Pathways Curriculum in order to receive a baccalaureate degree. The Pathways Curriculum has six curricular requirements, and three optional elements that provide the foundation in the liberal arts and sciences for all the bachelor’s degrees awarded by Trinity University. Through these requirements, students acquire the necessary skills and disciplinary perspectives to navigate complex questions at Trinity and in their post-graduate lives.
Introductory Courses
Learn about the integral and the derivative in our Calculus sequence and how they helped usher in the age of rationalism and the development of modern physics. In our Intro to Modern Mathematics, learn about the nature of mathematical thought by studying provocative notions like infinity, the fourth dimension, fractals and chaos, and many others.
Transition Courses
Get formal training in the tools of the trade—logic, abstraction and proof—in our Linear Algebra and Intro to Abstract Mathematics courses. As a bonus, learn in linear algebra many of the techniques that lie at the heart of myriad applications of mathematics, including to artificial intelligence.
Core Courses
Leverage your newly-acquired skills to understand in Real Analysis the structure of the set of real numbers and how to formally treat infinite processes (e.g., convergence of sequences of numbers or functions), and in Modern Algebra how the mathematical notion of group is the right way to understand and analyze the common idea of symmetry.
Breadth and Depth Courses
Supplement your core work by selecting from a varied list of courses that focus on specific mathematical fields. Examples include Probability (the mathematics of chance); Combinatorics (the mathematics of counting); Number Theory (the mathematics of the integers); Geometry and Topology (the mathematics of space); Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems (the mathematics of change); and several others.
Modeling, Applications and Interdisciplinary Courses
The following are only some of your options: learn in Mathematical Statistics to deal with data, both big and small; in Financial Mathematics to manage risk and to price options; in our two Mathematics for the Life Sciences courses to model genetic drift and population dynamics; and in our STAT Seminar to predict the winner of the next Super Bowl!
